Love for Harry Spence!

So my bff Kris from U-Bake and I are headed over to Harry Spence elementary school tomorrow morning to bring love to the lives of the staff there. In appreciation of their wonderful educational staff, we are bringing the crew there fresh cinnamon rolls and breakfast pizzas. Didn’t know that the Cheese Corner made breakfast pizzas? You really need to try one! They are like an omelet on a pizza crust. The crust is covered with American cheese, schmibitts of bacon, ham, onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and eggs all covered with more cheese. It is amazing! (Only if you are patient enough to wait for it to cool a little bit before you scorch the inside of your mouth with the molten lava that is the American cheese.)

Our meats stand alone

Today we had a customer that was unaware of the fact that we sell all of our deli meats as well as make sandwiches with them. Our fantastic sandwich meats can be picked up individually. We’ll sell you one slice, three pounds, a fat slice for cubing, shaved slices for the perfect S.O.S and, as always, we’ll give you a taste before you commit.

We also had someone that needed gluten-free products. You may have read in my newsletter that I’m clueless as to what things to even look for on the ingredient labels so my solution to that is to make a nutrition binder for both store. These binders will have the ingredient labels and nutritional information for every meat, cheese, soup, salad, dip, etc., etc., etc. That way, the people that know what to look for can verify for themselves what may or may not be off limits. (And of course, we send everyone over to U-Bake because they have a whole freezer full of gluten-free products. That’s because U-Bake Rocks!)

Welcome Celebrations!

Today I became a part of Welcome Celebrations. What is Welcome Celebrations, you ask? I will tell you. It is a business here in the La Crosse area that welcomes newbies into the area. Corinna Todd, the owner, goes to the home of the new mover and gives them wonderful information about local businesses, events and attractions. She also gives them $300+ worth of certificates and coupons for those local businesses. Not bad, huh? Did you know that the Welcome Wagon people didn’t even leave that basket that they brought to houses? Well Corinna brings the booty in a re-usable Festival Foods bag that she leaves for the household to use, and re-use, and re-use,….

So send that new neighbor to Welcome Celebrations. Let’s show everyone what a fabulous community we live in!

It’s Sunday night again!

So here it is: What was the name of Shoeless Joe Jackson’s 44 ounce baseball bat?
Prize: 1 Pound of smoked turkey.

Last week’s answer is Motley Crue’s Vince Neil. (He’s the Dude that looks like a lady.)

Have a great week!

Shiny things

I bought two beautiful pairs of earrings last night! Funny lady, Lisa Warsinski, and her son make phenomenally gorgeous jewelry. Lisa and her husband, Jim, are also an part of Comedy Alley, an improvisational comedy group here in La Crosse. My friend Kris at U-Bake hooked us up with Lisa for a combined U-Bake/Cheese Corner Holiday Appreciation Party last November. Wicked funny! Jim got everyone roused up with a motivational speech from his not-so-motivational character Stuart. Then Lisa kept it coming with her adventure at the doctors office that involved some fake tattoos….or what it cashews? Anyway, they were fantastic and everyone had a great time. And I now have pretty, new, shiny earrings. Yea, me!

My first angry blog entry

I’m sure you’ve noticed, if you read this or the Cheesy News, that I’m a pretty positive person. I don’t like to gripe and I think the best of people. But tonight I’m really torqued off. Lance hooked me up with some sweet car magnets that say, obviously, The Cheese Corner and they have Cole B. Jack, our mascot, on them. He got them for me this winter but I don’t really keep my car super spectacular clean so I waited until I had all of the salt washed off before putting them on. Well, yesterday, I washed the car and thought that this would be the perfect opportunity to put on the magnets. So I spanked ‘em on this morning, went to the La Crosse store, did my errands and things up here and headed to the Viroqua store. While there, I checked in on the to-do list the Viroqua girls had for me, changed a flouresent light ballast (remember our efforts toward being more green?), and hot footed it back to La Crosse in time to pick up the shorties from school. Now, keep in mind that today was really windy, right? Magnets held firm ALL day. Then the girls and I popped over to the Hillview ball fields to watch Kassie Mac, from the La Crosse crew, play softball. BOTH MAGNETS WERE ON THE CAR WHEN WE WALKED TO THE BALL FIELD! Great softball game-Aquinas against Central- 4-0 Aquinas. Walk back to the car…..no driver side magnet. No where to be found. Who does that?!?!? What could anyone possibly want it for. I’m just going out on a limb to say that whoever it was won’t be adhering it to their vehicle.

I let it slide when two of the etch-a-sketchs disappeared. I wasn’t happy about those being pilfered but I’m hoping that some little kids out there slipped one in Mom’s purse and is thoroughly enjoying them. This is an entirely different situation. What benefit, other than being a jerk, could someone possibly get from stealing a personalized car magnet??? I’m choosing to believe that someone out there is such a huge fan of the Cheese Corner that they just HAD to have it. But as my own little protest, I will continue to drive around with only one affixed to the car. I’m sure the guilt of seeing the CC-mobile with only one magnet will eat them alive. And believe me, I’ll let you know if that one disappears!

Earth Day

How very considerate for the Earth to fully cooperate with its day! Could the weather have been any more perfect to remind us how much we appreciate the world that we live on? It is very easy, on a day like this, to NOT take for granted the resources we have at our very fingertips (my click-clacking computer, for instance) and turn off an extra light, unplug an un-used appliance, change a lightbulb to an efficient CFL bulb, run less water, recycle that plastic bottle, etc., etc., etc.

I’m done. I’ll get off my soapbox now!

Are you ready?!?!

This kind of weather always gets me so excited! Once the spring weather starts to be consistant, does anyone else start to dream about summer on the river? Hannah said the other day that she could hardly believe that the winter was finally ending. She was starting to think that it was never going to come. I’m not sure that I ever got to that point but I do know that I’m smiling about the prospect of 80 degree weather almost as much as I smile about a Zac Efron movie. (That’s a lot of smiles!) Our daughters are headed to Goose Island on Thursday for a field trip to pick up garbage and I’m jealous. But they will leave me with a gift that day. Even better than they smelled as babies after a bath is the smell of our girls covered in sunscreen!

Priceless

You know when I told you how I quote movies all the time, well, sometimes it happens with Friends and Seinfeld as well. So, as I sit, uninterrupted in my room, trying to tackle the procrastination issue that I may or may not have mentioned, I’m truly enjoying the Friends episodes. There are far too many quotables to mention but they always make me laugh regardless of the amount of times I’ve seen them and that, my friends, is priceless!

New Trivia

This week’s trivia is about one of my favorite bands. Here’s the question: Aerosmith’s song “Dude Looks Like a Lady” was written about whom? This week’s prize is a wedge of phenomenal Asiago Cheese which is wonderful freshly grated on top of all your pasta dishes or just cut up as a snack. (Might be just a smidge tastier with a glass of wine!)

Last week’s answer to “what state is home to the Delaware State Park” is Ohio. And I’m a little disappointed with all the answers of “Delaware” we received. I mean, really, what fun would that have been?

In case you didn’t read Friday’s entry and the comment that I added this morning, the obsession continues. Zac was adorable in 17 Again! I’m pathetic.
