Trivia Hiatus

I’m sorry! I slacked too much this Memorial Day and I didn’t find us a trivia question for this week. But hey, there isn’t a full week for you to answer it in anyway so I really had your best interests in mind. (Actually, what happened is the new anti-virus stuff my husband installed on my computer seems to think that the website where I find my trivia contains viruses. So every time I try to go there, sirens sound and my computer threatens to explode-it’s very scary!)

Piano Lessons

Did you take piano lessons as a kid? I started when I was in Kindergarten and continued until I was a junior in high school (obviously I am not a virtuoso or I wouldn’t have needed lessons that long!) I have always loved being able to play, although I’m severely rusty right now, and I didn’t mind lessons too much but I absolutely HATED recitals! I detest doing anything in front of a large crowd-especially by myself. I diligently performed at recitals and music contest every year and dreaded it with every fiber of my being. I loved, however, piano duets with my good friend Sarah. It wasn’t as bad sitting up there with a cohort. Plus with all ten of our fingers plunking away, how likely was it that someone would notice if I hit a stray one every once in a while. And we had a really good time-we were typical giggling middle school girls that continued to be giggling high school girls.
After a miserable solo experience at state piano contest when I was in eighth grade, no one ever argued with me when I refused to do solos anymore but I loved duets with Sarah. We had a lot of fun and most of the time we sounded pretty darn good! The moral of my little story is: Everything is easier and a lot more fun with a friend at your side. Now I know that sounded really cheesy (no pun intended) but I do mean it and I want to say thank you to Sarah and all the friends that have been at my side.

I promise not to get as sappy next time!

Newsletter

May’s Cheesey Newsletter is REALLY late! That’s kind of all I really have to say about that.

Blustery day

Did anyone else love Winnie the Pooh when they were kids? Remember that one about the blustery day where Piglet blows away? Kinda feels like that lately.

My absolute favorite Pooh moments are the song he sings about being a little black rain cloud and the whole cartoon about when he goes to Rabbit’s house and eats too much honey and then gets stuck in the door. Then the cute little mole with the speech impediment wants to use dynamite to get him out and Rabbit decorates Pooh’s butt to look like a moose. Good times.

Sunday trivia

Here it is:

Who was our youngest president?

Prize:

1/2# of brie cheese

Last week: Who invented mother’s day? Anna Jarvis.

Have a great week!

Another book…

I think I told you that once in a while I would do a book review. So here comes a review of my latest distraction (and I do mean that in the literal sense, I had to keep reading to find out what would happen.) It was called The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It was a book club pick for me because, believe me, it isn’t something that I would ever choose to read without provocation. The setting is some time in the future where North America has become a “capitol” city that holds ultimate power over the 12 “districts” that are kept in line by each year’s “reaping.” Reaping day is how the capitol reminds them of their control and the district’s failed rebellion by forcing each to choose a male and a female “tribute” to enter the year’s hunger games. The twenty four youths are placed in a huge arena where they fight to the death. And there can be only one winner.

There are hovercrafts and cameras everywhere and genetically mutated wasps and birds and political oppression so sickening that it’s hard to read but it is so incredibly well written that it is hard to put down. (Well written, you know, very unlike that last sentence!)

Laundry

I know that I’m not the only person in the world that notices the laundry multiplies while we aren’t looking. How, when we do at least one load everyday, does there always seem to be three more full loads in the queue? Is there any correlation to the procreative abilities of rabbits that a research grant has not explored? There is a wealth of laundry exploration that I think more than just I would be very interested in. It may be discussed too much but I truly want to know where those extra socks go. I am currently wearing a pair that consists of one with pink stripes and one with gray stripes because I refuse to throw away the loners. I remember an episode of Ren and Stimpy where they visited the land of the left socks. Of course, they were all disgusting, smelly left socks and I choose to believe that mine go missing after they are fresh and clean!

Brewers, here we come!

So, the skinny guy I married and I are taking a bus trip to the Brewer/Marlin game tomorrow. Hitting the road with a couple good friends and a cooler (or two) and, for me, a complete absence of care for the outcome of the game! I know to some of you die-hard fans that may sound like blasphemy or sacrilege or some other big scary word but I don’t get too hung up on the outcome of games. I love to go to ball parks-there is an atmosphere there like no other. My favorite is Wrigley field. And truly, where else can you find such great deals on snacks? I mean, a beer and some nachos always costs $10, right?

I’m just excited to take a break!

Team names

We need clever input! The Cheese Corner is forming a Relay For Life team and we need a name. We have some ideas but it’s always fun to have some other suggestions. So if you have any ideas for a good name, we would love to hear them.

Then, in the very near future, I’m going to ask you to come and support us! We are going to sell those shape things (you know, those things that you pay $1 for and you write your name on it and we stick it on the wall) and we’re going to find some item to sell from which the proceeds go toward our fund raising efforts. Of course, anyone can just donate any random amount at any time as well!
