Piano Lessons
May 21, 2009 by tina.
Did you take piano lessons as a kid? I started when I was in Kindergarten and continued until I was a junior in high school (obviously I am not a virtuoso or I wouldn’t have needed lessons that long!) I have always loved being able to play, although I’m severely rusty right now, and I didn’t mind lessons too much but I absolutely HATED recitals! I detest doing anything in front of a large crowd-especially by myself. I diligently performed at recitals and music contest every year and dreaded it with every fiber of my being. I loved, however, piano duets with my good friend Sarah. It wasn’t as bad sitting up there with a cohort. Plus with all ten of our fingers plunking away, how likely was it that someone would notice if I hit a stray one every once in a while. And we had a really good time-we were typical giggling middle school girls that continued to be giggling high school girls.
After a miserable solo experience at state piano contest when I was in eighth grade, no one ever argued with me when I refused to do solos anymore but I loved duets with Sarah. We had a lot of fun and most of the time we sounded pretty darn good! The moral of my little story is: Everything is easier and a lot more fun with a friend at your side. Now I know that sounded really cheesy (no pun intended) but I do mean it and I want to say thank you to Sarah and all the friends that have been at my side.
I promise not to get as sappy next time!
