New Buns!!!

We got the most awesome buns today at the La Crosse store! They are a Sun-dried Tomato Basil bun and they are amazing! Tomorrow we will feature them-we suggest a Chicken Philly or a Turkey Trio built on them. I enjoyed it just by itself-with butter of course because everything is better with butter.

So tomorrow you have got to stop in to try our buns :) and you should pair it with some Stagecoach pasta salad! It’s yummy!

Pretty Cheese Trays

Something came up this weekend that I thought I should let as many people know as possible. Hopefully you know that we make absolutely beautiful cheese trays and meat trays. (Some of them even have both!) But did you know that you can bring in your own decorative trays for us to build your cheese trays on? We normally build trays on eco-friendly cardboard pizza circles-inexpensive and easy to dispose of for convenience and value. If you bring in your beautiful cut glass or silver tray, we’ll build your tray directly on that. So, I have a very special appointment tomorrow morning with some fresh deli meats and cheeses and some lovely trays that will grace the table of a 50th birthday celebration somewhere in La Crosse.

There’s not much that we won’t do (within reason) so never hesitate to ask!

New trivia

As promised, here is the next trivia question for both stores:

In what country is kite flying a professional sport?

The prize this time is one of our 4.4 ounce Rosenberg Blue cheese. (This stuff is amazing! Perfect for snacking, crumbled on a salad or, my favorite, on top of your steak!) We have samples of our blue cheese available if you’d like to try it. You won’t be disappointed!

Happy Sunday!

Health and Wellness Fair

Today was the Health and Wellness Fair at Shopko. Kris @ UBake and I were generously invited to set up there, along with Dr. Jerry Johnson, DC, the South Side Community Center, and a few other organizations. Kris and I set up with some sugar-free treats from UBake and a tray of sandwiches from our 500 Club menu. (We had a lot of other stuff, too, but I was saving you the boredom!) It occurred to me that there are probably a lot of people that don’t know that we have an entire menu of yummy meals all under 500 calories and 30% fat. Of course, we have to boycott the mayo for these requirements and even though our full-monty sandwiches are extremely healthy, we use extra heavy duty mayo. (Nothing but the best, right?) I know, it breaks my heart too but we have some wonderful flavors added by honey mustard or fat free dressings. Anyway, just thought I would let you know.

Misleading

I should clarify the “Cheese, glorious cheese” post. The Cheese Corner carries spectacular cheese! We have a wonderful variety, almost all of which are Wisconsin cheeses. And they are all fresh and sliced to order and I LOVE (almost) all of them. What I purchased at Trader Joe’s was off the wall cheeses. One was a German version of brie that is out of this world. One was Huntsman cheese, a combo of double gloucester and stilton that looks like a layer cake and comes from England. One was a triple creme brie that really didn’t light my fire with it’s virtual absence of taste….and so on and so forth. These are all what I refer to as “Exotics.” Some are imported, some are just different and some are outrageously expensive but Oh-so-tasty! I didn’t buy muenster and colby there!

I just didn’t want it to sound like the only place to get good cheese was at Trader Joe’s. What a way to promote our own stores on our own blog!!!

Cheese, glorious cheese!

I’m really excited about some purchases we made this weekend at Trader Joe’s! (Love the Trader Joe’s!!!) I own a couple of cheese stores, right? But I get so excited to go into really fun cheese departments in bigger cities/stores! I don’t really have the ability to sell some of the really funky cheeses because I don’t go through enough volume before it starts to mold on me and that’s just not cool. (Yes, I know that some cheese is supposed to have mold!) But until our stores move more cheese, I have to get my exotic cheese fix at awesome places like Trader Joe’s. (The nearest ones are in Madison and the Cities. If you’ve never heard of one it would be best if you just checked out their website because there should be a limit to this blog entry!) If you have witnessed all that is spectacular in the Trader Joe’s, share the love of the cheese cooler with me for a minute! I left there with a very modest selection of 5 different varieties. SO FUN!!! Tonight we had a little cheese course with our dinner-the fam isn’t as over the top with my goodies as I am. Oh well, there’s no accounting for taste!

We love Fiesta Mexicana

We fell victim to the “We-don’t-feel-like-cooking” Sunday night. You all know what I mean. It’s been a great weekend, you’ve chill-axed and rejuvenated and you’re just too beat to break out your Emeril skills. Enter Fiesta Mexicana. Enrique and Steve, Felix and Octavio, and all the rest of the crew are wonderfully friendly and the food is always fast and hot. Thanks for feeding my family tonight!

Lent

I realize that 8:00 on Friday night may be a little late to mention that we are an extremely Lenten-friendly restaurant. We have a vegetarian soup offered every Friday and we offer 4 fantastic meatless subs. Sorry, that all sounded very sales-pitch-like. I’ll stop now.
In other news, the answer to this week’s trivia question, “Which was the first state to give women the right to vote?” is Wyoming. Terry Davis was the winner of the brown bag special we offered up as booty. Thank you so much to all of our correct answer givers! Next week’s question: How many ridges on the outside edge of the US dime? Prize: One pound of ham. We look forward to many correct answers to draw from!

The Dirty Rancher

We tried a new sandwich today! WOW!!! I want to call it a Dirty Rancher and Lance doesn’t think I should, for obvious reasons. But anyway, I digress….Here’s what it is-we take our Rancher sub, which is BBQ sauce, ranch dressing, bacon, chicken, mushrooms, onions, green peppers and cheddar all toasty. Then, here’s the biggie….we add tangy coleslaw! That’s right, I said coleslaw. (Now you understand the “dirty”, it’s JUST a bit messy! In fact, take a fork.) Definitely an experience, but maybe just get a half because it’s filling!
Don’t forget the trivia question for this week-there’s a brown bag special on the line here! Name the first state to give women the right to vote.

The Alamo

Not sure if all of you know this or not, but there is a new sandwich at the Cheese Corner. We call it “The Alamo” because we like to be clever and it has a very Tex-Mex taste and “The Tex-Mex Sub” didn’t seem interesting enough. I could describe it here but saliva is not good for your computer. You have to try it for yourself.

Happy Snow Day!
