No more stache!
November 2, 2009 by tina.
Thought I should let you know that the mustache is gone. (Insert happy dance here.) All the money raised went to a very good cause, but I gotta tell you, I’m incredibly happy that it’s done. After the judging on Friday night, we got a trimmer and started cleaning up faces. They all look so nice!!!

New fame for the Cheese Corner!
October 25, 2009 by tina.
Our Chicken Philly was just included in The Second Supper’s 10 Best Sandwiches in La Crosse!!! It didn’t list an official ranking number but we were listed second and our write up was longer that ALL the other ones. That means that it’s the best, right? Briana describes the phenomenal goodness of the Chicken Philly on a Sun-dried Tomato Basil bun with fantastic detail and she sounds fun too! Now I just have to buy a frame….

September 9, 2009 by tina.
I know, we just got back from a family vacation! But Lance and I are headed to Memphis for a long weekend. Just the grown ups. We are very excited and I’m sure I will tell you all about it in next week’s blogs!
Have a great weekend!
PS. We’ll check for “pretty little things” in the Jungle Room!

The Queen Cheese’s birthday
September 7, 2009 by tina.
Today was my Mom’s 71st birthday. You may or may not know her but she opened the first Cheese Corner in Viroqua in 1986. She’s amazing. We didn’t really do a spectacular job of honoring that today. I mean, we could have probably come up with a better plan than to have her drive up to La Crosse to see us, take her to Rudy’s for lunch (although it was mighty tasty), take her to the bookstore for a browse then bring her back to our house and have my daughters nag her until she played badmitton with them. But I gotta say, we had a nice day and I only hope that when I’m 71, I will be playing badmitton with my grandkids!
Happy Birthday, Mama!

My Emma
September 3, 2009 by tina.
I don’t know if you’ve met my daughter, Emma, or not but she is indescribable. I love her to death and she is a true mystery. Her bedroom is decorated in Spiderman colors and posters, her favorite colors are any that she deems “boyish,” she wears Packer or Badger shirts virtually every day. Don’t be fooled, she has an incredibly soft side, but even her dress clothes have to walk a fine line with being “too girlish.” But she is a tiny little bit of a thing that I’m not even sure tips the scale past 50 pounds and she’s almost 10 years old. Well, she surprised even me yesterday. She brought home the brochure from the elementary strings program and told us that she wants to play the string bass. Now as her supportive parents we had to fight the urge to giggle and tell her that sounded great when all the while, I’m trying to picture her behind an instrument three times her size. Don’t get me wrong-I truly think it is great! But she has to check with the director to see if she’s tall enough…see why it makes me giggle?

Road Trip!
August 16, 2009 by tina.
We leave in the morning for our first family road trip!!! We are headed west through Minnesota to South Dakota and then Wyoming then down and back across Nebraska and Iowa before coming back home. Of course, this multitude of driving will be broken apart by TONS of attractions all along the way. We plan to see all there is to see but we will have to see. There are only so many hours in the week. But we will catch Rushmore and Yellowstone, Wall Drug and Deadwood, Crazy Horse and Devil’s Tower, Grand Teton and the Snake River, the Badlands and the Black Hills, the Corn Palace and…well, you get the idea!
Wish us luck!

Defending State Champs
August 13, 2009 by tina.
Lance and I are headed to Brookfield, WI this weekend with the La Crosse Firefighters softball team. We are the reigning champions and we will be trying to defend our title against all the professional firefighter softball teams in the state. It’s a really fun tournament where we see the same people every year (Wisconsin only has so many professional fire departments) and get to spend a day at the ball park. Who doesn’t love to spend a day at the ball park?!? It a lot of laughs, some misguided cheerleading and a remarkable amount of unhealthy snacks and drinks. It’s gonna be great!

Road trip trivia
August 9, 2009 by tina.
The family is headed out on a Griswold family road trip vacation next week. We are all totally pumped and in honor of one of our destinations I looked for site specific trivia and this is what I came up with.
In what year was Mt. Rushmore completed? And this week’s prize will be a scotch-a-roo bar.
Hope you have a great Monday!

Relay talk and some trivia
August 2, 2009 by tina.
If you have never been to a Relay for Life, you really should catch one. They are so powerful! First there is the fact that you know that everyone there has worked really hard to organize the event, raise money, or survive cancer. (They put all three of these groups in different colored shirts so that you can tell the difference!) Then there is the overall mood of the event which is one of celebration. It’s just fun! Then there are the political speakers at the opening ceremonies that always last longer than they should and a kick off survivor lap. Next, we all get to join.
There are teams that continue to raise funds there at the event; selling massages, food, beads, raffle tickets, etc., etc., etc. Tents are decorated according to the theme and everyone is smiling. After it’s dark, they light the luminaria that were purchased in honor or in memory of a cancer victim and at 9:30 they shut off the lights and read all the names. (Tears.) Dedicated walkers continue to man the track all night as the entertainment and themed laps keep everyone’s energy level up. All in all, it is an amazing event.
I’ll stop blabbing now and tell you that the trivia question is “Who was the first woman to receive a medical degree in the US?” And this week’s prize is 3 Cow Tails!
Have a great Monday!

We rock!!!
July 30, 2009 by tina.
Our Relay for Life team has raised over $1700. That’s freakin’ awesome! I’m so proud of all of us-and of course, all of you that contributed! We are excited to walk tomorrow night. I have the tent all ready to go…I wonder how to set it up?
