Mustaches

My husband has grown a mustache. I don’t like it. Actually, that’s a pretty big understatement. He looks just like his older brother which I find to be really creepy. So while the actual stache doesn’t look awful, I can’t look him in the face without wanting to laugh at him. Now, I feel the need to explain because he didn’t do this just because he wanted to. The La Crosse fire department is currently involved in their first annual “Stache Bash.” It is an MDA fundraiser so each participant bought in for $20 and was officially clean shaven on September 30th and the contest will be held on October 30th. Of course, the bash will involve tip boards and other fund raising efforts….and maybe some beer. Each “grower” forfeits their entry fee and suffers tremendous ridicule if they cave in and shave it off before the 30th. (They may have to pay another $20 as an extra punishment but I’m not sure.) There are five categories for our celebrity judges to critique and analyze. But I think, more importantly, that the wives that have suffered all month should win all the prizes. It will be a really fun time and I think I’ll bring a razor!

Fall Food

I gotta tell you that I’m excited for fall food. Not sure how the rest of you are but when it gets cooler outside, our family’s menu changes. You start pulling out the recipes for casseroles and chili. Today, I even had the forethought to put something in the crock pot so that I didn’t have to think about dinner at all! That’s not to say that we don’t still grill occasionally over the winter, we just don’t do it six nights per week.

Happy warm belly to you all!

Excuses

I try not to make excuses but I’m totally going to blame my lack of blogging on my new phone. How do you figure, you might ask. Well, I get all my email on my phone so I deal with the very important ones right away, delete the trash and save the not-as-important for another time. Therefore, I don’t open and start up my actual computer anywhere near as often as I used to. Without starting up my computer, I don’t spend any time on the internet. This has seriously cut into my Facebook time and I don’t Twitter as much, and, CLEARLY, I don’t ever blog anymore!

I realize that there is no one to blame but myself, but I’m hoping that now that I have discovered the reason behind my lack of online activity, I will take steps to correct the problem! But the good news is that Facebook hasn’t consumed hours of my life…see, there’s always a plus side!

Whining a little

Sometimes it’s not so great to be the boss.

The Road Trip

I haven’t told you all about the road trip! Well, I will spare you ALL of the details and just tell you that we had a great time! There was minimal too-much-time-spent-together-in-a-car fighting, we saw tons of awesome stuff, had a lot of laughs and put 3000 miles on Lance’s Honda. I think the true highlight was our day of white water rafting, followed by only three hours of driving and then kicking back at the hotel pool. (It was the best hotel pool evah!!! Big, warm, clean and void of other people!)

I have noticed that the highlight of our trip is the most relaxing day in the itinerary. For those of you that know me, this is a bit of a change. Maybe I’m growing up…or just slowing down…or getting old. Oh well, all three of those are better than dead!

It’s been a while…

I haven’t blogged for a ridiculously long time. Frankly, I’m not really sure that anyone reads it but it’s like an assignment that I haven’t taken care of.

But there is no blogging inspiration today so that’s all for now.

Have a great day!

Roasted Kale

“Roasted what?” you ask. That’s right, I said Kale. It’s a leafy green vegetable that I hadn’t really ever heard of until we joined a CSA this summer. We get a lovely box of vegetables every week that someone else grows fresh in their garden. I love fresh vegetables but I’m not much of a gardener so it works out quite well. But one week, we didn’t know what one bundle was and in our newsletter they told us that it was kale and they suggested a “Roasted Kale” recipe. Basically it’s a spinach-ish veggie that you can use in place of spinach in most recipes but you can also toss it with some olive oil and roast it. When you take it out of the oven you crack some sea salt over it and it tastes like potato chips. Our kids absolutely love it and ask for that as a treat. I KNOW!!! How often do kids ask for a vegetable as a treat?!?!

Monday Morning

I personally love Monday mornings. I know that sounds crazy but, as a person who judges their day by how much they accomplish, what could be better than the activity of a Monday morning? You get to lay out the week, get a list together, start scratching things off, etc., etc., etc. (Believe me, I know how much of a freak I am!)

Could you imagine if I were able to hep myself up on caffeine? My family would have to run and hide!
